What is HEIC?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the photo format that iPhones and iPads use by default. It stores images at about half the size of JPG with similar quality. The catch: many Windows programs, older Android phones, websites and online forms do not support it.
Convert HEIC to JPG in your browser
The conversion runs on your device, so private photos are never uploaded, and it works the same on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iPhone:
- Open HEIC to JPG and add one or more HEIC or HEIF photos.
- Choose the JPG quality – 85–92% keeps the photo looking the same.
- Convert and download the JPG files one by one or as a ZIP.
Need PNG instead?
PNG is lossless and useful for editing or graphics. The HEIC to PNG page converts iPhone photos to PNG, although the files are considerably larger than JPG.
Stop your iPhone from saving HEIC
If you regularly need JPG, open Settings › Camera › Formats and choose “Most Compatible”. New photos are then saved as JPG – at the cost of more storage. Alternatively, keep HEIC and convert only the photos you share.
Before you share
Converted photos can still contain the location where they were taken. Remove it with Remove EXIF Metadata, and make large photos lighter with Compress Image before you email them.
